rockin the eighties

Yesterday I had a facial and when I came out my hair was up in this style and it made me think of Mel and Kim from the eighties. I had a "New York" facial that is apparently some special form with 2 exfoliation's and blah blah blah...I will also let you know that I went to the gym 2 times today. Yes you read that correctly - I have spent a total of2 hours in the gym today and have used up 1100 calories in exercise. Which is just as well because I am going out for French tonight. Oh la la.

don't you just love

days where by the end you feel like this...

nothing really crazy happened in my day today. I have a bit of a headache and well that is about it.

Let me tell you a little about this photo. In the background you will see a fridge. ( My Dad's fridge) This fridge has been around for years and years and years. It has legendary status. It was real fancy in its day - what with being a split in two fridge/freezer combo. It also had a section where you can cold water out - you know one of those push things. That particular function died a long time ago - but you can imagine in its day it was really a talking point. One of the main reasons everyone loves this fridge though is because it can do magical things to a bottle of soft drink. On the hottest, hottest summer day you can put a bottle of soft drink in the freezer, then put it in the fridge (dad knows the exact mathematical equation - and it is generally the one thing he always gets right at Saturday lunches) and then when you pour it - it is just the right amount of slushie - not too much that it is flat but just enough so that it is icy, icy cold and refreshing. OH the perfect Cokeyboy!!!

Also on the fridge if you look closely - you will see another picture of me - I'm wearing red. It is my school photo from this year - yes we were given individual portraits!!! Dad got one and nanna - any other takers?

go go gadget

My latest favourite thing is this watch. You know it really is too ugly for me to wear under just any circumstances. It is my gym watch. I call it the polar express. It is a special Heart Rate monitor and well I love it. It tells me
  • how long I have worked out for
  • what my heart rate is
  • if i am working in the targeted zone
  • and how many calories I have burnt

I love it - I never go to the gym any more without it. I bought it on the holidays and since then would you like to know my totals...would you...in the last 3 weeks I have

  • worked out for 17.50 hours and 43 seconds
  • and at these work outs burned - 7024 calories

Mind you - I have also probably sat on the couch for many more hours than that and eaten way more calories than I have burnt off...but I still love it.

I'm a planner

I like to make plans. I like to make lists. I like to cross things off lists etc. Planning our overseas trip is no different. I mentioned in a blog last year that I was spending an inordinate amount of time researching jackets on the Internet. It's just what I do. This is a screen shot of the spreadsheet I have up and running for various components of the trip - I purchased travel insurance on the weekend, and when I needed to add it to the spreadsheet I had a hard time remembering what exactly all the colours meant. My sister who was sitting beside me at the time rolled her eyes and said, "Don't look at me - I don't understand it". Luckily it all came back to me - I was able to update it and well - does anyone want me to produce a graph - I could probably do that as well.

PS Also notice my trickiness in linking back to the previous blog where I mentioned the jackets. I'm getting clever.

PPS the jackets have been purchased - alas it was not a North Face.

I remembered something else

I made my bed every day this week...that is a great achievement.

the week that was

For some reason this week I have been caught in some weird time/space continuum. It seems to have gone super slowly, but at the same time I have not had time to do a lot of things. How can that be? I'm sure you have noticed that I haven't blogged - so what have I done this week

This week I have

  • been to the gym for 6 different sessions
  • got addicted to a new show 'Dance your ass off" which I then find out today has been cancelled after one episode. Thanks Channel 9
  • had dinner with Dad

and that is about it...as i said at the outset these activities have somehow sucked all of my time.

I don' even have any photos...

fancy schmancy

Continuing in the theme of my new camera and geeky manual reading. if I had never read the manual I would never have known that I can do this...

I can pick out a colour in a photo and make everything else black/white/grey...isn't that cool? If I had never looked at the manual I might never have known how to do this. I don;t know how much I will use this function, but because it's new I think it is pretty groovy.

This by the way was a lovely platter on offer at a friends house on Friday afternoon - very nice.

manual labour

I bought a new camera last week. There was no way to avoid it as my other one died ( this is the story I am sticking to anyway) It was old and big and clunky, and well I needed a new one. So I did a bit of research as I do and worked out what I 'wanted' in a camera etc. Somewhere in the spare 20 minutes I had between my beauty appointment and my trip to dad's for dinner I went to the shops and bought a camera. At Dad's that night I cracked it open, and I am not ashamed to admit that I am a manual reader. I even read the manual for my clock radio. I just think if I don't look at the manual then I might miss some cool feature. Do you read the manual? Or ami all alone in this?
PS this photo was taken with the new camera

wino

As you know last week I did a winery tour, and this here is a representation of some of my purchases. I think I got caught up in some of the fervour - because one of those bags contains a liqueur called 'moonshine madness', which at the time I loved, and well since returning methinks I don't love so much. I will soldier on though and continue sampling it until I can decide.

Wine boffin tip - did you know that you don't get the true 'feeling' of the wine until your third mouthful...can this be applied to other things do you think????

PS

you might also notice the horrible terracotta ceiling we have in the bathroom - why anyone would paint their ceiling this colour is beyond me. WE will change it one day...promise

put some light on the subject

Over the last few days - ok maybe a week or more, we have slowly been running out of lights in our bathroom. WE have been running on one light for the last few days now. This does provide a challenge when you are two girls trying to get ready in the morning. See the problem is thus - you cannot just but these light bulbs anywhere you have to go to a specialty lighting spot. I normally buy them in bulk , like 30 bulbs at a time. We had even run out of them. SO this afternoon I went to buy some more and you know what she told me that soon they will not be allowed to import the light bulbs - what will happen then? I think I will be buying them in bulk between now and October. Also I went to a new shop and from my memory they are a lot cheaper then the last shop I got them from. So that surely is a good thing

love em

I love these shoes. They are navy patent. I think they fully rock it. And they are called Shirley...one of my fav aunties. Shirl and I went into the big smoke yesterday. Started off with coffee and cake at Three Monkeys at West End, wandered around James street for a little while and then headed to my fav Viet rest for lunch. Shirl liked and said she might even venture back to Viet in the future.

finito

so as I mentioned in this morning's post - and it is unusual for me to post twice in one day - I was going to try and label all of my posts...well I have finished the job - it didn't take as long as I thought. No doubt it needs some tweaking but hey. I have discovered a few things about myself though as I read back over the last 183 blogs - namely

  • I make a lot of typing mistakes. What is with my use of ; as ' ... and my continued use of a small i instead of I
  • I have raved on about a lot of stuff that really is quite boring...like check how many times I have mentioned, my hair, the gym etc etc

It was definitely an interesting task

A girl's gotta have goals

So my new latest thing - (I know - I constantly have latest things), well it's not really 'new' but I have set a goal for myself for the next 2-3 month period. I have a big fancy celebratory work party in September, and I desperately want to wear the pictured dress. Now I committed a big no-no - and when I bought the dress it did not fit me , but I knew that one day it would. It was an absolute bargain - which I know is a false economy but I also thought it would never go out of style. I think it is a classic. So no surprise it still does not fit me - it was giggles galore last night when I was trying it on - but I will wear it. I will, and now that it is in cyberspace I really have no other option do I?

Also you can see my new bedspread - I haven't had one for ages. So really the best thing to do when you're saving for an overseas trip is to spend money ...isn't it?

PS. You might notice I have started to label/tag my posts - I don't know why - just thought I would, but it means I have to go back through all of the old posts and add labels to them - it will without doubt be a process...

Is it too early

to start sampling wines at about 10 am in the morning? Is it do you think? I went to Stanthorpe with friends for an overnight sojourn. I had never been to Stanthorpe and well I would definitely go back again. We did a winery tour - which was excellent - however when I was sloshing back reds, whites, sparkling and fortified by about 10.30 in the morning. WE didn't get back to our B & B until 6 ! I was not drunky enough though to:

  • not pick the newlywed honeymooners - coffee anyone?

  • not be annoyed by the wine boffin who asked a continual raft of stupid questions

  • decide that people are snobby about wines. I have decided to no longer be a wine snob and just drink what I like - even if at the point in my life it is a really sweet wine. I LIKE IT!!

WE did try and break up the wine sampling by visiting an apple farm - where the lady kindly told us we could pick apples. so we all trudged out to the orchard and well - hello DEAD Apples. Please excuse my crazy hair on this photo - keep in mind I was probably tanked an had not eaten :)

I'm home

but once again only briefly before I take off again. I am heading out to the local winery region on Tuesday for an overnighter with some friends. I again have no photos because yesterday I was still feeling sick and pictures of sick people are not great...believe me!

what a week

I am at my dad's fav holiday RSL right now - have just stolen 20 Minutes of computer time. No photos to upload. I have spent most of the week with my head in the toilet bowl - not a nice way to spend a week down the coast. I honestly thought I would never eat again...luckily that passed and you will be happy to know that I have eaten , and managed to get to the shops in the last 2 days. I did try to convince dad that since he had food savings for me for most of the week that he should buy me a little something. He once again did not think this was necessary. Ihad to buy myself a gift. I have been looking for a new pair of jeans with no luck so resorted to my fall back purchase - a pair of red shoes.
