and because

I have been a bit slack this week - here is a little something I have been working on. I think it is one of my new favourite sites. Featured are some boots that I like and will look to purchase when I am OS in a few weeks. What do you think of them? You likey?

i did it again

in the A.M PEOPLE...A.M! What else can I say - oh today's book that you can see is "Buddhism for Busy People"...I have been too busy to finish it. LOL. But each time I do read it I really enjoy it and take something away. I had planned to read it on my Holiday down the coast in June, but those plans went awry when I got the spills. Have I mentioned that my alarm clock is not one of those horrible....ringing ones. If I was to have the opportunity to wake up to the sounds of my alarm clock it would be a lovely babbling brook.

my day started

at

surely this is not a good thing. The fact that I was awake enough to take a photo also suggests that I had been awake for a little while. I normally get up at 5:15- ish , so this time is really inconvenient, no point in going back to sleep. The book you can see, is one I rediscovered in the great bookshelf clean up - it is called the "Year 1000" and is all about Enga-lond at the turn of the first Millennium. I am really enjoying it - being the history buff that I am.

this made me laugh

I have to retell this story because I just remembered it and again I chuckled... If you know what my profession is - there are a lot of opportunities in the day for funny things to happen. As a classroom teacher lots of funny things happen and mostly you forget them - but this is a good one. In one of my classes (with seniors) we are completing a unit on 'the world of work' - exciting stuff in itself. To jazz things we up we have been playing celebrity head style games - with the difference being that you have to try and 'guess' what job you are by asking a series of questions and getting responses. ( there are some guide questions that they can refer to) They have all been loving it. One job guessing game went something like this.

Student : Do I work in the daytime?

Class : Yes

Student : Is my job glamorous?

Class : Not really

Student : DO I get payed well

Class : No

Student. I know I know,Miss I know....am I a........

SCARECROW??????

( this was said with all seriousness, as the student has some 'special needs')

Teacher : No, you are NOT a scarecrow, because it is not a job!!!!!!!!!!!!

gotta love it

My sister and I with a kanga! And you can see again the theme of mum dressing us the same coming through. I am pretty sure we both loved these outfits - in fact I am also pretty sure that my sister is constantly on the look out for something similar...in contemporary fashion kulcha! If you see one let me know stockists - she will be there to buy it. It of course does NOT have to be terry toweling or quite so short in the crotch area.

just another saturday

My mum and dad 'did' lunch at their house every single Saturday since about 1988 - that is a long time. There is always the regular crowd, and others come and go. When mum did lunch it was always yummy - you know how your mum just prepares stuff and it tastes good. WE still have lunch every Saturday with the regular crowd - but no one knows how to cut up the chicken like mum did. We never learnt because she always did it. Saturday lunch is always full of laughs. It's noisy but it is fun. Some highlights

  • mum liked the bread from a certain shop, the butter from a different shop, and the chickens only after a certain time , and the salad stuff had to be bought the night before so it was 'cold enough'
  • dad somehow always managed to buy the wrong avocadoes - not ripe enough or too ripe
  • i have mentioned before the wanders of the fridge - so drinks have to be just cold enough with the right amount of slushie
  • dad has habit of buying lady finger bananas and then not telling anyone until everyone is full and then he gets from the kitchen
  • everyone always finishes lunch with a golden syrup sandwich...yum-o

step back in time...

as you know I have been scanning old photos. This one I just love for some reason. What is it about 70's photos that they seem to be instantly recognisable. Was it the invention of nylon and synthetic materials as witnessed in my mum's dress? My mum never liked having photo's taken - but I don't really know why. I think she was a bit of a looker - but I am biased - I'm sure everyone thinks their parents rocked it back in the day. Their is a story to go with this dress. My mum was not happy to wear it? I think it was for my Aunty Shirl's wedding - (Shirl correct me if I am wrong) Mum's mum forced her to wear this dress or something like that...I think...correct me if I am wrong SHirl.

I just never could

get into any of these books. I love reading - and can usually read anything. These 3 books though I started and never finished - and despite what the critics say, some people weren't liking it. Namely ME!
Sophie's World - I started and kind of enjoyed and slogged through probably 3/4 of it - but I just couldn't get to the finish line.
Oscar and Lucinda - I think maybe I read a chapter.
Snow falling on cedars - not sure if I even read 5 pages.

In the great bookcase clean up - they have been put out. My aim is to cart all the unwanted books to the markets and sell them - one day I will do this.

DO you finish a book no matter what? What books have you disliked?

a new addition to my google reader

This site made me LOL - so I had to add it to my google reader. DO you like how I haven't given any clues away about what it is...you will have to click and view. Perhaps I should start a new feature on things I add to my google reader? What say you?

I heart jacaranda's

I love this time of the year. I love the Jacaranda's. I went for a walk this afternoon and took a photo of every Jacaranda I saw. This walk wasn'tlong - it was around my block - that was it nothing major - but this is how many Jacaranda's there are in my hood. I can never remember what they look like without the flowers - my sister thinks they are ugly. I don't think they are - because well surely you would notice if there were this many ugly trees surrounding you? Wouldn't you?

a whole lotta hot air

I snapped this pic driving to breakfast last week. We often see hot air balloons in our 'hood because we live near the park that they take off from. I love the look of the however I can almost certainly say that I would never go in one. Have you ever? Would you ever?

cranky head

I have a cranky head today...just my head - nothing else is cranky. I thought this picture summed up my face perfectly. Of course I was obviously cranky here because the whole birthday cake thing was taking too long, today the crankiness is for entirely different reasons. Although I did eat cake today to try and alleviate the cranks..not sure how successful it was. My mum is in the green dress - sometimes I wish mum was a hoarder and didn't throw out everything - I think I could fully rock this dress ( even if I do say so myself)

in the words of

one of my favourite blogs...don't say that you can't have a practice dress up in the middle of summer (ok slight exaggeration). I don't know why the urge struck , but it did. So my sister and I found ourselves putting on our clothes for the upcoming holidays. I couldn't bear to put all of mine on - so I just went with Jacket, scarf and beanie. My sister however had jacket, scarf, beanie, polar fleece, thermal vest and thermal long sleeve shirt. She did however leave the thermal long johns off. We can both without a doubt say that we were definitely warm enough...here in our lounge room...in sunny SEQ...

guess what???

It happened..

finally...

the necklace broke...

I had just been saying to my sister on Saturday night that I was contemplating taking it off - because I really felt it was impinging on my summer necklace wearing abilities. As they say - be careful what you wish for - because on Sunday morning..whammo it broke. I really hope that the Saturday night wish did not supercede the initial wish I made on the 8 March. I'll see what happens...

an obsession

I am addicted to google reader. Have you used it? If you haven't you should try it - particularly if like me you have a lot of sites that you check ever day. It used to take me ages to go to favourites click on the next one etc etc. With google reader - it is easy. It automatically lets me know when there are new posts - also it doesn't take forever to load because they are already preloaded in the reader. I also am obsessed wit opening things 'in a new tab'. By the end of my online time I can have a gazillion things opened that I want to check on. It is all so easy - so a link you love...right muse click - open in a new tab and Bob's your uncle - you don't have to navigate away from what you are already reading. See I said I was obsessed. I have prattled on for ages about tech stuff...
