We have started a new family 'thing'. We are going to Dad's for dinner every Thursday night. I kind of like having a routine weekly meal with your folks. Of course we always do Saturday lunch and we always used to do Monday night dinner at Mum and Dad's - but that stopped a few years ago when for some strange reason mum changed her work roster - seriously she had had the same roster for about 10 years then it just changed. So just last week we decided to do Thursday night dinner. Dad went into a bit of a panic over what he was going to cook - but last week was a total success - he cooked my favourite - apricot chicken - and he did it really well. This is the meal I request every single birthday dinner. He also had said to me that he was organising to get Jo's favourite dessert - Sara Lee Danish ! Tonight he is whipping up chicken kiev's - or chicken kevs as we call them. Not sure about dessert though - he hasn't given it away. Needless to say I am looking forward to an evening spent with my dad :)
PS This photo was taken on a family trip to Sydney - January 08 - if you blow the photo up mum and dad look kinda cranky - I'm pretty sure they weren't :)

Those weekly family rituals are important...I like them too.
I didn't know that your Dad was a good cook. I think that it is a very admirable skill in a man.
I wouldn't go as far out on a limb as to say he is a good cook - his meat and three vegs leave a lot to be desired. However his apricot chicken is nice and the kev's were nice ( but they were from the butcher)
let just say growing up dinner was not always as good as his apricot chicken........... Mummy taught him well
The fact that any man of his age can actuall comprehend what on earth 'apricot chicken' entails - is a miracle and that deserves a shout-out for Paul !
Sounds like chicken is a fav ! Mine too !!
